A series of brutal murders shakes the small town of Wainport.
The killer is targeting partners of the women staying at Hope Haven, a local battered women's shelter. Stacey Miller, like many Hope Haven staffers, has experienced violence at the hands of a man. She uses memories of the abuse to help her empathize with the women in her care. Unfortunately these same memories have kept her single for years, unable to trust another man. But when she meets Tim Bentley, the cop tasked with finding the serial killer, her resolve to avoid romantic relationships softens.
While the killer is butchering a swath through her home town, Stacey struggles with whether she can trust Tim enough to allow him into her heart.
